IC Controls has designed and built online process water analysis instrumentation for over 40 years. In addition to its line of robust products, it also provides custom engineered solutions including sensors, analyzers, datalogging and SCADA to suit specific needs. In addition, with extensive lab capabilities, new applications and custom products can be validated in-house. Some of our capabilities are highlighted in the following examples:
Conductivity Analyzer for Nuclear Power Plant
Instrumentation for use in nuclear power plants must meet very strict requirements and is subject to rigorous qualification. IC Controls designed and manufactured a digital conductivity analyzer qualified to CSA N290.14 for safety-related instrumentation. The analyzer was developed as a “drop-in” replacement for an existing analog meter and required to replicate existing electronic interfaces. Further, performance parameters such as accuracy, dead band and reliability were qualified according to applicable regulatory and certification standards.

Application Study for Hydrometallurgical pH measurement
Extractive hydrometallurgical processes are particularly punishing for pH sensors. A major engineering company in this field contacted IC Controls to evaluate the pH sensors being used in a new process; they were challenged to achieve pH sensor life of just 1 day. IC Controls assessed the process chemistry and proposed several sensors for evaluation at its lab in Orangeville. Sensors were submerged in heated process samples provided by the company and monitored over several days to evaluate drift and accuracy. Sensor candidates were identified that comfortably exceeded the target life thereby establishing the viability of the process.

Wastewater Pilot Plant with SCADA
Universities require reliable data to support robust conclusions for research projects. A university with a focus on wastewater built a pilot plant with complete SCADA (Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition) capability. Working to a strict budget, IC Controls provided the online process analysis equipment (pH, ORP, Dissolved Oxygen) and SCADA system including Modbus. In addition, the entire system was pre-configured and tested prior to onsite startup.
