pH Sensor Life and Accuracy in Hydrometallurgical Evaluation
IC Controls™ and Thermo Scientific™ Orion ROSS pH sensors exceed requirements in harsh new hydrometallurgical application.

- New proprietary hydrometallurgical process caused existing pH sensors to fail within 24 hours; negative drift was evident within hours of sensors being placed in the process
- Goal: 36 hours with minimal drift and good correlation to grab sample
- Application: harsh, reactive chemistry with pH range of 1 to 4, temperature up to 85 °C
- IC Controls selected several sensors to determine best fit for the application and tested them in process sample at 80 °C over 36 hours
- IC Controls model 648 high temperature pH sensor exhibited virtually zero drift throughout the 36-hour test and followed grab sample trend within 0.0018 pH units/ hour
- The Thermo Scientific Orion ROSS pHR sensor evaluated was the most accurate and matched grab sample within 0.18 pH units over the duration of the test
- Overall, the solutions identified by IC Controls ensured that the new process was economically viable
