The chemical compound silicon dioxide, also known as silica, is an oxide of silicon with a chemical formula of SiO2 and is known for its hardness. Silica causes hard scaling in boilers and cooling systems. If it is allowed into the steam then it may deposit onto the turbine blades causing an imbalance on the blades and inefficiency in power generation.

IC Controls is the Canadian distributor for Thermo Scientific Orion, the manufacturer of the 2230XP silica analyzer utilizing the heteropoly blue analysis method. The 2230XP provides continuous online measurements down to 0.5 ppb in boiler applications. Designed with the ability to run intermittently as in a “peaking station”, the 2230 XP includes a housekeeping mode to prevent precipitation within the analyzer.
