“Back in 2018 I purchased and installed four IC Controls pH sensors and transmitters at a customer’s site. It was a challenging application on two large holding tanks handling 0 and 14 pH waste water. The probes have performed great with infrequent calibrations. Today, that Plant reached out to me and requested a replacement pH sensor and a spare.”“Yes, you can go ahead and use my application as an example of IC Controls quality and durability. For the record, when this system was constructed using two ~6000 gallon fiberglass tanks, it needed two pH sensors in each tank. No one but IC Controls said they could handle the process. These tanks are High and Low pH holding tanks. This is rinse water from various spent ion-exchange tanks with activated resin, among other sources. There are in-tank recirculating pump eductors providing agitation for accurate pH readings. The retractable pH probes are mounted 24” from the bottom of the tanks and there are two pH probes on each tank for correlation/redundancy. This system has been in constant use for over seven years with little/no maintenance except occasional calibration verifications. The pH of the tanks is extremely low and high. Typically <1 pH in the low tank >13 in the high tank. Temperatures are ambient Southern California conditions.”from the President

What this customer likes about the SensorFlex platform:
- The 5-minute trend on the display which allows him to see spikes in the process.
- Automatic buffer selection for pH during calibration.
- P&ID naming. The tank identification that they use shows up on the screen.
- Ability to enter pH values by typing the numbers directly using the on-screen keyboard. In their previous analyzer they needed to adjust numeric values by repeatedly using the +/- keys.
- The stability indicator on the screen is a god-sent. It takes the guesswork out of it. Previously his operators needed to use their own judgment to determine when a sensor is stable when calibrating.

“We have four of the same probes, guessing close to 17 years old, all used for ph range 6.5-9.4 typically… probes are hanging in open water tanks submerged 3-20” in 50-58 degree water. We have the original IC 655-T ph analyzers… they are all still working… I have 2 probes that no longer will stay in the range after setting slope… We either need to purchase four new replacement probes or just update the entire ph monitoring system…“

“The probe is working very well so far, no issues there. We currently have the probe in a “stripping” tank, it is filled with slurry and HCL. The slurry is thick and is stirred with a large mixer inserted in the top of the tank. If the slurry is not mixed sufficiently, it will harden, this makes it very difficult to pump out of the tank. The pH in this tank is very critical to our process, we must keep it at a 2 (1.95-2.05 band). The temperature in this tank is about 45°C. We currently have the probe threaded into a piece of pvc pipe and stuck down into the top of the tank (away from the mixer blades).”

We did get all the measurements we needed from the DO meter, and have implemented several very important QC protocols that resulted from the readings. Prior to renting the unit, my hunch was that we were picking up excess O2 “upstream” from our packaging operations, and man did the meter prove that! Way too much oxygen in our wort, and not enough purging of our brite tanks with CO2. It’s hard to imagine trying to figure that out without the DO meter-what a great tool. We made sure to blow it down very well, like you said, so it’ll be OK for ground transport. Thanks for your support throughout the rental process-you made it very easy for us. I hope the new year finds you well-thanks much.

Thanks for checking in. The new hardness analyzer is working good so far, especially when compared to the old APA6000. We have another identical 2120XP unit in another building and have had it running for a few years now so we already have all of the spare parts and all that goes along with it. If you have any literature, I’ll gladly accept it. I’ll share your contact info with the other supervisors as well as the technicians.
